The Global Programme for Food and Nutrition Security and Enhance Resilience seeks to increase food availability and diversity for families at risk of malnutrition – especially for women of reproductive age and children.
The Programme in Yemen (GPFNS) considers Beekeeping to be one of the agricultural activities that can contribute to improving farmers’ income and thus enhance their nutritional habits. 180 men and women in the governorates of Ibb and Hajjah participated in trainings on beekeeping. To get started, they received 1080 beehives along with essential inputs and tools to establish their own micro-enterprises.
GPFNS grants those beekeepers the opportunity to form a community in order to exchange relevant information and experience. In addition to that, the company selected by the GPFNS to carry out the training process agreed to buy the beneficiaries’ honey products for a period of two years.
Yemen is one of 12 country packages of the Global Programme under the special initiative ONE WORLD – No Hunger.
