Since ancient times, Bolivian farmers have been interpreting signs in the environment to understand and predict weather patterns.
With forty percent of Bolivians directly impacted by climate change, this understanding of the local environment is precious.
This is why, IFAD is supporting a programme that trains farmers to propose their own development projects, with funding awarded to those proposals deemed to be most effective.
Thanks to this programme, more than 6000 hectares of land have been restored or preserved and, just as important, farming communities themselves are driving their own development.
