High-level representatives of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)  participated in an expert discussion at the International Women’s Forum taking place in Novokuznetsk, which focused on creating an enabling environment for women to fully achieve their economic potential to contribute to inclusive and sustainable industrial development.

The two-day Forum, titled “Women’s Role in Sustainable Development of Industrial Regions”, aimed to foster the exchange of best practices and success stories on the role of women in the development of economy and industry from the regional perspective. It featured presentations by the high-level government officials as well as representatives of the private sector, business associations, civil society and international organizations.

Fatou Haidara, Managing Director at UNIDO, presented the Organization’s contribution and approach to women’s empowerment. “I am proud to say that UNIDO has placed women’s empowerment and gender equality at the core of its mandate,” Haidara said.

“We are particularly pleased that the Government of the Russian Federation is a great supporter of the women’s empowerment agenda. This Forum marks another milestone in our growing partnership aiming to advance the economic empowerment and entrepreneurship of women while supporting their active role in industrial development.”

The event was a follow up to the positive results achieved during the Second Eurasian Women’s Forum, held in St Petersburg in 2018.
