The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) signed a US$ 1.5 million agreement to provide vital health care services to Palestine refugees in Lebanon. The signing ceremony, which took place during a KSrelief symposium in Beirut under the Patronage of His Excellency the Prime Minister of Republic of Lebanon, Mr. Saad-Eddine Rafiq Al-Hariri, was held between the Advisor to the Royal Court and KSrelief Supervisor General, His Excellency Dr. Abdallah Al Rabeeah and UNRWA Commissioner-General Mr. Pierre Krähenbühl.
This timely support to the UNRWA Medical Hardship Fund (MHF) will provide vital access to tertiary medical care for the most vulnerable Palestine refugees in Lebanon. Established in line with the Agency’s poverty reduction approach, the MHF alleviates the financial burden of specialized treatments on Palestine refugees. The MHF supports patients suffering from catastrophic diseases and those who are receiving life-saving hospitalization or costly treatments related to diagnoses such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, and thalassemia.
Expressing his deep recognition and gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and KSrelief, UNRWA Commissioner-General Pierre Krähenbühl said: “Saudi Arabia’s robust support to Palestine refugees is indispensable. This contribution will help to ensure that the Agency provides critical assistance to the most vulnerable Palestine refugees. More importantly, this support will protect their most basic human rights and dignity.”
Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah, Advisor at the Royal Court and General Supervisor of KSrelief said: “The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre values its strategic partnership with UNRWA, through which we seek to reach Palestinian refugees to alleviate their suffering. Today, we signed an agreement to support health care for Palestine refugees, particularly those suffering from catastrophic diseases like cancer and multiple sclerosis”
The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre was established on 13 May, 2015 under the high patronage and guidance of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz. KSrelief aims to provide humanitarian aid and relief to those in need outside of the Kingdom’s borders.
