India’s health care system is changing. In September 2018, the Indian government launched the world’s largest completely government-funded health insurance scheme which allows 500 million people to access healthcare services free of cost.
It subsumes the predecessor program and significantly expands health insurance coverage for the poor and vulnerable population including informally employed workers and their families.
GIZ’s Indo-German Social Security Programme has been advising the Indian Government on the design and implementation of both programs.
