Launched the general department of disaster prevention and control

The General Department of Disaster Prevention and Control has just officially launched under the Prime Minister’s decision. This unit is under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development which is the standing body of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control

Being separated from the Department of disaster prevention and control of the Irrigation General Department, it is the first time, Vietnam has a state management agency on disaster prevention and control.

Accordingly, the General Department of Disaster Prevention and Control will be consultation agency for MARD, the Government related to promulgation of legal documents, mechanisms and policies on natural disaster prevention and control, mobilization of social resources and the participation of the entire society in disaster prevention and control.

In addition, the General Department of Disaster Prevention and Control will train and strengthen capacity for all levels, from senior leaders to local forces and the people so that they can understand about disasters, in order to reduce the risks caused by natural disasters.

Together with that, the General Department of Disaster Prevention and Control has the task of promoting international cooperation with countries such as China, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, etc. for effective management and prevention of natural disasters.
