Tenders and grants related to the health sector on the rise in Q1 2020

Over 930 tenders and 340 grant notices related to the health and humanitarian and emergency sectors were posted on developmentaid.org in Q1 2020. These numbers increased by 18% and 60% respectively, compared to Q4 2019 when 786 tenders and 213 grants were available. Procurement information related to COVID-19 can be accessed without restriction on developmentaid.org until the end of May 2020.

Mircea Chiriac, senior DevelopmentAid data analyst, explained the current global trend: “Development organizations are allocating funds to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. An important component of the response will be funneled through international and local public procurement mechanisms. That is the main reason for the number of bids and grant notices to continue to grow”.

At 148, the World Bank is the donor with the most health and humanitarian tender announcements posted.

“The World Bank Group is taking broad, fast action to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and we already have health response operations moving forward in over 65 countries,” said World Bank Group President, David Malpass.

The World Health Organization, which is one of the central entities in the COVID-19 response, has posted 104 tenders. The United Nations Development Programme and the non-profit community have each issued 73 announcements. Over 60% of tenders targeted the procurement of services while works and goods are the subject of 34% and 6%, respectively.

At the same time, over 100 grant notices relating to the health and humanitarian sectors have been posted by various non-profit organizations. The United Nation’s Children Fund has announced 42 grant opportunities while the United States Department of State has issued another 34 notices from the total of 340 grants.

COVID-19 related tenders and the grants are available without restriction on www.developmentaid.org.

DevelopmentAid is granting free access to the tender and grant notices related to the COVID-19 virus available on its platform. The action is intended to accelerate COVID-19 response efforts and increase their efficiency. Suppliers of medical equipment, consulting firms and NGOs, as well as humanitarian organizations, can access currently available open and forecasted tenders and grants using a single resource.
