Seminar series

The Inter-American Development Bank, the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications and the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (FCFM) will hold the seventh session of the Cycle of Talks: Autonomous Mobility and the Future of Transportation, which is part of the Autónomo #MobilityChallenge innovation process, a project organized in collaboration with IDB Lab, Open Beauchef and Transdev.

This Cycle of Talks consists of a series of events with the participation of national and international experts, who will present the challenges and opportunities of autonomous vehicles, transportation systems and emerging technologies. These sessions will be held throughout this year and each one will have a discussion topic to be analyzed by the speakers and commented by the public.

The Keynote Speaker of this session is Kara Kockelman, Dewitt Greer Professor of Civil, Architectural & Environmental Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin and holder of a PhD from the University of California at Berkeley. Kara has extensive experience in studies related to transportation systems, with the participation as author or co-author in more than 160 academic articles and two books, across a variety of subjects, nearly all of which involve transportation-related data analysis.

In her presentation, Kara will discuss the Economic, Land Use, and Emissions Impacts of Autonomous Vehicles. She will present research relating to all these topics, to help students, researchers, and policymakers think about policies, technologies, and other tools to improve quality of life for all travelers.

We will also have the participation of Francisco Martínez, Dean at the FCFM of the University of Chile, and Chris Zegras, Department Head at MIT Department of Urban Studies and Planning. They will fulfill the role of respondents of the session and will share their vision regarding the topics addressed in the presentation.

This session will be held in Spanish.
