Virtual Event

The event seeks to exchange ideas among those responsible for productive development, innovation and science policies in Latin America, about the challenges they face in this new context and the public policy responses that can contribute to responding to the emergency, promoting economic recovery and promoting productive transformation in the COVID-19 context.

Still immersed in the COVID-19 pandemic, countries in the region are deploying sanitary and economic measures still with no certainty about the duration of the crisis and the real consequences on the population and the productive sector. Even without knowing exactly what the “new normality” will be like, there seems to be an international consensus about the need to have massive test capacity and to intensively monitor the evolution of the spread, as well as to implement proactive safety and health protocols in all the sectors of the economy and the urgent development of medicines or vaccines.

These challenges underscore the importance of science, technology and innovation as determinants for any scenario of economic reactivation. The question now is how can we facilitate the development of these efforts based on the region´s existing capacities.
