In the first three months of 2020, DevelopmentAid published over 14,000 tender notices via its platform. The funding opportunities, released by 122 donors, covered five continents and 85 different sectors. In today’s article we provide a more in depth look at the sectors that were of particular interest to donors before the COVID-19 pandemic struck with all its might.
Development sectors
Civil engineering was the sector with the most open and forecasted funding opportunities in the first quarter of the year. Over 2200 notices* were published in anticipation of the construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, dams and other infrastructures.
Information and Communication Technology, the second most popular sector targeted by the donor community sector, was featured in over 1500 announcements.
The third sector that caught the attention of development organizations was Industry, commerce and services with over 1100 tender notices relating to this sector being published on www.developmentaid.org in the first three months of 2020.

The most active donors
The hawk-eyed DevelopmentAid Data Entry department has counted 135 international donor organizations and in the first three months of 2020, 122 of those organizations announced funding opportunities via tender notices.
The World Bank (WB) was by far the most active donor, with 3,285 tenders, representing 23% of the total number published. The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) released almost 2000 tender notices, a little over 13% of the total number of announcements. The Asian Development Bank was the third most active donor organization in search of work, goods or consulting services, with 1270 announcements (9%).

Countries and regions targeted by the international community
Geographically, the 14,167 tender notices published on the DevelopmentAid platform cover five continents. Asia was the region referred to in almost 40% of the tender notices while 31% of the total number of funding opportunities focused on the African continent. Latin America and the Caribbean could take advantage of 1,548 (11%) of the available funding opportunities.
The United States of America, India, Iraq and Pakistan were the countries targeted by the most notices.

It is no secret that the COVID-19 pandemic, as announced by the World Health Organization on March 11, 2020, has changed the shape of the International Development Sector. As the leading provider of business intelligence information in the sector, DevelopmentAid follows the tenders and grants announced by the international community and brings its members exhaustive analysis of the dynamic of tender-related data.
