Project title: Initiative for Hygiene, Sanitation and Nutrition (IHSAN)

Description: The Initiative for Hygiene, Sanitation and Nutrition (IHSAN) is a five-year cost plus fixed fee completion type contract activity, multi-sectorial, integrated project that focuses on a three-prong approach: (1) improving the delivery of nutrition, hygiene and sanitation specific and sensitive service within the existing systems of Afghanistan, with a particular focus on the public health system's basic package of health services (BPHS); (2) fostering rapid adoption of optimal nutrition hygiene and sanitation behaviors at the household and community levels; and (3) increasing availability of nutrition and sanitation products and services. IHSAN is implemented through a system strengthening approach, utilizing the BPHS and other Afghan system across sectors. IHSAN will closely align with the USAID Multi-Sectorial Nutrition Strategy and the USAID Water Strategy.

IHSAN has three objectives:
Objective 1: Capacity to institutionalize nutrition programs enhanced
Objective 2: Adoption of optimal nutrition and hygiene behaviors at community and household levels increased
Objective 3: Availability of nutrition, hygiene, and sanitation services and products increased
