The general objective of the FWC is to:

Help to ensure that any forthcoming decision by the Commission to grant recognition to supply chain due diligence schemes under Regulation (EU) 2017/821 underpinned by a thorough assessment, so as to ensure the integrity of the regulation and the EU's approach to responsible sourcing of minerals.
The specific objectives of the FWC and the forthcoming specific service contracts concluded under it are to:
- Assess the due diligence schemes applying for recognition by the Commission based on the methodology and criteria set out in the forthcoming EU delegated act.
- Advise the Commission on that basis as to whether a specific due diligence scheme merits recognition by the Commission.

Duration in months: 24

Description of renewals: The FWC is renewed automatically once for another 24 months unless one of the parties receives formal notification to the contrary at least three months before the end of the ongoing duration.
