Development of a Tertiary Education Management Information System for Botswana

EfC was contracted by the Commonwealth Secretariat under the auspices of the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Co-operation (CFTC) to specify, design and implement the Tertiary Education Management Information System (TEMIS) for the Tertiary Education Council (TEC) in Botswana.

EfC, in collaboration with Xentec Ltd, provided EMIS consultancy in response to the TEC's need for an information system, through work in Botswana and the UK. Components of the work included (1) development of the requirements specification; (2) design and implementation of the TEMIS Database, import templates for circa 30 Tertiary Education Institutions, and reporting facilities; (3) inception and prototyping visits to validate and finalise the TEMIS concept and system and (4) advice on necessary capacity development and infrastructure development in TEC. Training for TEC personnel to ensure they were fully conversant with SQL Server and with the TEMIS application as developed by EfC was also provided in the UK.
