Description
The National Water Utility of Senegal (SONES) is currently implementing an ambitious program for the “Long Term Drinking Water Provision” to the City of Dakar and surrounding areas.
At present, drinking water for the city of Dakar is being provided both through the boreholes and through the surface waters that come from Guiers Lake and are being treated by Ngnith and Keur Momar Sarr plants.
The assessments carried out by the National Water Utility of Senegal (SONES) show that the groundwater resources used for the supply of drinking water to the area of Dakar are currently decreasing, while the water demand of the capital city is increasing.
For this reason, SONES is planning the construction of the booster pump in Carmel, which will enable the flow capacity of the two adduction pipes from the Guiers Lake to pass from 185,000 m3/day in gravity mode to 300,000 m3/day in pumping mode.
