Description

The Machico/Caniçal speedway is part of a large investment program, funded by the European Union, which purpose is to expand and modernize Madeira's road network, consisting essentially of mountain roads. Following the international airport expansion, a series of modern expressways and speedways were built to connect the island's capital, Funchal, to the island's eastern tip, through the city of Machico. The extremely mountainous volcanic terrain presented special geotechnical difficulties to road construction. The Caniçal double tube tunnel consists of two 2.125 m long tubes.

Consulgal carried out 100% of the planning and financial control, works supervision and general coordination for SREST (Regional Secretariat of Social Equipment and Transport).

The works involved such type of works as excavation, land movement, waterproof tunnel lining, paving, installation of tunnel safety equipment and signaling, construction of complex road structures, land movement, among other.

Main Service: General Works Coordination and Works Supervision
