Description

Regional economic integration by means of transport infrastructure constitutes the first focal sector of the EU–  Kenya country strategy programme/national indicative programme (CSP/NIP, 2008–2013). The present project  contributes to the implementation of the master plan for urban transport in the Nairobi metropolitan area (2006– 2025) which seeks to improve traffic operations and traffic management within Nairobi city and its outskirts.

In this context a relevant services contract for the supervision of works is to be procured. The proposed works shall include: construction of approximately 9 km of new dual carriageway roads; construction of approximately 4 km of new single carriageway roads; rehabilitation of 6 km of existing single carriageway roads and widening (construction of second carriageway); construction of 2 grade-separated junction interchanges; construction of 3 bridges approximately 15 m span each, and other ancillary drainage structures; construction of 12 km of
dedicated non-motorised transport (NMT) facilities (footpath and cycle tracks) along existing roads; street lights along the above roads, and traffic lights.
The appointed consultant will assist the beneficiary in the supervision of the works contract, acting as its representative and shall provide services to include but not limited to:
— supervision of all construction works, including checking and approving the contractor's work programmes;
issuance of site instructions; compliance testing and approvals; measurement of works, checking and forwarding payment certificates for approval by the supervisor; progress monitoring and reporting,
— advising the supervisor on all contractual aspects including evaluation of contractual claims.
The services will be for the works implementation period of 30 months plus intermittent services during the 12 months defects liability period.
