Scope of Contract: Contract for Rehabilitation and Improvement Works for Goronyo Dam and River Training at the Middle Valley Irrigation Scheme (MRVIS) Goronyo in Sokoto State, Nigeria

The scope of the works is to rehabilitate the dam, including the instrumentation system which have suffered from lack of regular maintenance over the years. It also includes the River Training and Flood Protection Works for the Falalia and Takakunmi Sectors of the Middle Rima Valley Irrigation Project (MRVIP). Goronyo reservoir is situated near Katsira village about 25km east of Goronyo town and some 90km north east of Sokoto city in Sokoto State, north-west Nigeria. The main dam is located at approximate co-ordinates 13o 31’ latitude north and 05o 52’ longitude East. The reservoir is owned and operated by Sokoto-Rima River Basin Development Authority (SRRBDA). Like all other such Authorities, SRRBDA is responsible to the Federal Ministry of Water Resources (FMWR).

The major components of the works include in the Rehabilitation of Goronyo Dam are as follows:

Remedial works to the main embankment dam
Remedial works to the headworks
Remedial works to the secondary dam
Remedial works to the saddle dyke
Repair and replacement work for the Monitoring System of the dam and development of an Instrumentation Plan
Refurbishment of the mechanical and electrical (M&E) equipment.
Construction of the Manaka Flood Protection Dyke
Construction of the Western Takakunmi Flood Protection Dyke
Construction of the Southern Takakunmi Flood Protection Dyke
Construction of a new Re-aligned Keta Flood Protection Dyke
Rehabilitation of Keta Old Flood Protection Dyke.
