Aim of the "Programa Desarollo Rural Sostenible" (PDRS) financed by the German Government is to improve the livelihood of the poor rural population through a more sustainable use of their natural resources. It is active in the Piura, Cajamarca und San Martin regions and focuses on a tight interlocking of protection and sustainable use of resources. The programme comprises different components: (1) Disaster Risk Management in rural areas, (2) Sustainable value added from natural resources: production, marketing and export and (3) Protection of resources: Management of protected areas, buffer zones and catchment areas. Methodologically, the project aims at the close connection between protection and use of natural resources, the strengthening of the institutional capacities of the implementing organisations and public institutions as well as the integration of (new) disaster risk prevention instruments and regulations into strategic development and land use planning.
