Description

ECORYS Transport provided technical assistance to the restructuring of the Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB). ECORYS advised the GMB about restructuring the institutional and organizational set-up of Gujarat ports. It provided training to GMB staff and assisted in commercializing port activities and setting up a legal framework.

Components of the restructuring activities conducted by the ECORYS team were:

  • To provide an overview of the current status of the Gujarat ports in terms of throughput, facilities, hinterland connections, infrastructure, port capacities;
  • To provide detailed cargo forecasts per commodity, port & region and to assess the required port capacities for these cargo flows by port & region;
  • To confront the required port capacities with the available – and planned port capacities;
  • To provide recommendations for the future port development requirements;
  • To transfer the knowledge/ know-how of the project to Indian counterparts/future members of the Strategic Planning Unit (SPU) through in-house training and the production of a handbook containing all information required for the execution of the activities mentioned above;
  • To provide guidance and assistance to the SPU in its first year of operation.
