Objective: The potential for children to be traumatized during the process of investigation, removal & out-of-home placement is high. What is the trauma that children may experience during these processes & what can first responders (social workers, police officers, medical practitioners, helpline operators) do to reduce the trauma they may experience during these processes? This is the main objective of the project “Leaving with Care – Living with Care” (CARE). Specific objectives - Promote intersectoral coordination, cooperation & mutual understanding among public authorities, NGOs & educational institutions on trauma-informed responses to ACEs during these processes - Improve, strengthen & harmonise first responders’ skills, capacities & practices on trauma-informed practices & responses - Increase the awareness of teachers about the effects of trauma on children - Empowerment of children in residential care & enhancement of child participation - Exchange good practices & experiences among different EU countries Main activities: - Establishment of national expert working groups with the participation of experts from police, prosecutor, social service, medical and nursing staff, residential care providers, helpline operators, teachers - Development of European set of Trauma – informed approaches - Training of first responders (social workers, police officers, medical practitioners, helpline operators) - Integration & evaluation of ACE/trauma-informed approaches - Policy recommendations handbook - National & Transnational Conferences - Teachers’ information and awareness raising - Awareness raising documentary with children’s voices Expected results & impacts: • 600 participants trained in new transferable methods on the subject • 4 national expert working groups for building capacity through exchange of knowledge • 4 events / 250 participants • Policy recommendations • Increased awareness for at least 1800 people • Empowerment & promoting child participation
