Objective
This grant supports a stronger European trans network that promotes diversity, non-discrimination and gender equality. TGEU’s 2021 objectives include supporting implementation of the EU’s LGBTI+ Equality Strategy; assessing the impact of COVID-19 on trans communities and advocating for their needs in the COVID-19 response; and strengthening the organisation's operations, bodies, and networks so they have skills and resources to effectively respond to discrimination and advance the fundamental rights of diverse trans communities across Europe. Expected results for 2021 focus on (1) increasing the capacity, skills, knowledge and connections that trans rights activists need to take part in civil society and contribute to EU processes; (2) increasing EU-stakeholder awareness on the extent and causes of inequality experienced by trans people; (3) increasing legal protections and support for trans people, especially amid COVID-19; (4) coordinating activities to promote and implement the LGBTI Equality Strategy; and (5) expanding TGEU’s membership and deepening relationships within more marginalised trans communities. Key Activities include a campaign to bring attention to the violence facing trans communities; advocating for better discrimination protection, improved legal recognition, and depathologisation in the EU; supporting LGBTI Equality Strategy implementation in Member States; evaluating and assessing legislation; creating publications on the LGBTI Equality Strategy; and convening topical networks to strengthen the trans community’s responses to intersectional discrimination. Beneficiaries include 84 community leaders, 69 EU/national policymakers, 147 NGOs, 90 practitioners, 937 LGBTI people, and 15.000 of the general public. Deliverables include 25 documents, 12 advocacy meetings, 12 trainings, 18 mutual learning events, 1 campaign, 10 speeches/presentations, 1 video, 10 submissions, and 500 social media posts.
