Objective

The Drivers of Equality –project aims at enhancing the implementation of non-discrimination legislation in Finland. Special emphasis of the project is in improving the performance in promotion of equality as is required by the law, e.g. equality planning obligation for public authorities, educational institutes and employers. Special objectives of the project are: 1) to develop tools for effective equality planning and for monitoring of the planning obligation; 2) to raise awareness of both key professional groups and the general public on non-discrimination and diversity in the Finnish society; 3) to provide opportunities for mutual learning and inspiration for actors, who are obligated to draw an equality plan; and 4) to enhance cooperation and coordination between the national key actors. Work planned The Drivers of Equality –project will develop an online training for public authorities at local level together with municipalities and NGOs representing vulnerable communities, an online process guide with communication innovations (web bot, webinars) and other support tools. The project will also develop national monitoring system for obligation of equality planning, based on a survey and a negotiations process with key authorities at national level. The project will implement and establish a new national equality event, first Finnish Diversity Day. Aim is to bring actors working with non-discrimination, diversity and gender equality, for mutual learning and sharing of good practices. The project organises for national non-discrimination and gender equality professionals a study visit to Sweden, to discuss and learn from Swedish colleagues in a transnational workshop on combining the policies and cooperating over discrimination grounds. The project will develop practical policies and tools for local level municipalities to enhance equality and non-discrimination, especially in the field of urban planning and promotion of good relations.
