Scope of Contract: Engineering design studies for typical engineering solutions for site-specific vulnerabilities; Road M18_007, section: ivinice Vitalj

The M18 is located in northeast part of BH. It stretches through the canyons of the rivers Gostelja, Oskova, Drinjaa, Ujia, Stupanica, Bioštica, Ljubina and Bosna and between mountains Konjuh, Zvijezda, emerska mountain and Ozren near Sarajevo. The M18 road connects the two largest centers in FBH, Tuzla and Sarajevo, and forms the basic link between Tuzla and Sarajevo Canton. These are also the two most populous cantons in FBH.Section 007_ivinice – Vitalj connects two cities ivinice and Kladanj. Total length of section is 30,08 km.

The terrain is characterized by steep slopes and cliffs on which landslides often occur. Complete section extends through J2,3 – Ophiolitic mélange or wildflysch and if we add to this numerous streams, torrents and frequent flash floods we can easily say that by the geographical, geological and hydro geological point of view characteristics of the terrain are very unfavourable.

The main objective of the work is to map and assess road subsidence and landslides and provide recommendations and detailed designs for remedial measures the road M18_007, section: ivinice – Vitalj, km 21+900 – km 30 + 000. The specific objectives are to:

  • Identify and prepare maps of road subsidence, landslides, rock falls, etc.
  • Identify types of landslides, rock falls, etc. and assess the feasibility of their treatment
  • Conduct hazard, vulnerability and risk assessment
  • Provide recommendations and detailed designs for remedial measures for recovery work
