Objective:
The European Week of Sport (EWoS) is an initiative of the European Commission, which aims to promote sport and physical activity throughout Europe. Even though the Week itself takes place only during 7 day in September, the BeActive brand and messages promoting a healthy lifestyle are present throughout the year. At national level, the EWoS is implemented by a network of National Coordinating Bodies, among which is also the Czech Olympic Committee (CZ NOC). Entering the 7th edition in the Czech Republic, the CZ NOC has set two main objectives for the implementation of European Week of Sport in 2021. • As in previous years, the project aims to promote sport and physical activity and get as many people physically active as possible. • In the particular situation brought about by the COVID-19 pandemics, however, a new dimension of motivating people, in particular children, to get “back to sport” and to adopt a healthier lifestyle as a means to increasing resilience and immunity has been added as a second main objective. In more concrete terms, CZ NOC essentially aims to fulfil to the best of its abilities the three main tasked conferred upon National Coordinating Bodies of EWoS – coordination, organisation and communication – build on the success of the past six editions, and reinforce the healthy lifestyle dimension together with a focus on motivating people to re-join sport actiThe European Week of Sport (EWoS) initiative is part of an overall policy aiming at increasing the level of participation in sport and physical activity in the EU. It takes place in all EU countries and beyond and is coordinated at national level by National Coordinating Bodies (NCBs).The main role of NCBs, among which the Czech Olympic Committee (CZ NOC), is to help ensure that the EWoS is implemented and gets visibility in the participating countries and that the messages of the Week reach out to as many Europeans as possible and encourage them to be active.
