Objective

Risk assessment is perhaps the most practiced and studied component of risk management for civil infrastructures, and can be considered the fulcrum of risk management efforts. A risk management policy that defines risk, risk tolerances, corporate governance and oversight, responsibilities, and accountabilities is essential to obtain optimal use of an infrastructure, allowing to consider both long term load/demand effects, as well as extreme events. With proper knowledge, risk-management methods allow for identifying risks, evaluating and prioritizing risks, mitigating and controlling risks, monitoring, and reporting. This proposal aims at preparing an international master course where focus will be given to the risk assessment and management of civil infrastructures. Within the time frame of this project, the pre-existing consortium will strengthen their internal liaisons and use their network chains to draw attention to this initiative both for ensuring a strong work oriented master, interest from prospective students as well as raising awareness within the main asset owners and managers of critical national infrastructures.
