Objective: The purpose of the project Place Making 4 Inclusion – reviving active citizenship for reshaping the societies (PM4I) is to empower youth work providers and youth organisations to ensure social inclusion of young people of diverse backgrounds in jointly shaping the local communities, by using the placemaking methodology and practices. Placemaking has become influential for practitioners in numerous fields-place-based initiatives often seek to improve the well-being of local communities through creative, collaborative responses to local issues. Such engagement with place can support the aims of youth work and non-formal education especially when working with young people with fewer opportunities. Built on the experiences of projects such as Brave New YOU – Reloaded and Placemaking Europe and partners’ common understanding of the challenges that social exclusion brings, the consortium aims at utilising the placemaking approach to enable young people in local communities to actively take part in shaping the inclusive urban environment through the process of co-creation among different stakeholders in communities of diverse cultural, religious, socio-economic backgrounds. The project consortium gathers 7 organisations across sectors with a high level of complementarity in terms of experiences and expertise and the implementation of the project represents an opportunity to capitalise and valorise partners’ background opening the way to new approaches to curriculum building, transferable to any youth organisation operating in social fields. The main outcomes of the project will be: PM4I Cookbook including consolidated placemaking pedagogy with youth work and non-formal education approaches for inclusive communities Placemakers Ambassadors Network ensuring direct participation of young people in shaping the places we live into the places we love.
