Objective:
Guardia di Finanza (GdF) is the economic and financial police corps established by Italian law (Decree 68/2001) to protect the financial interests of the State and the European Union. The project A.F.A.S.T. aims at the purchase of high-tech equipment listed below: -n. 5 portable scanners; -n. 8 videoscopes, with the final purpose to reinforce the GdF investigative capability and capacity to detect cavities, false bottoms and spaces in which tobacco products or contraband or counterfeit cigarettes are concealed and to improve the physical checks of trucks, other means of transport, containers or luggage carried out by the militaries of the Corps in the performance of customs police duties The law enforcement action carried out in ports, airports and interports as well as on the routes along which vehicles coming from countries outside the European Union, would be more effective, with an ex-pected increase of the number of fraud schemes discovered, intercepting illegal activities related to smug-gling and counterfeiting of manufactured tobacco and fraud in the customs sector.
