Solar Energy Lending at the First Microfinance Bank of Afghanistan

Project Description: MEI provides FMFB-A with technical assistance for the development and implementation of a solar lending facility (minimum loan amount USD 1,000) targeting households and MSMEs. Pilot knowledge and lessons learned will be used to scale up the lending facility.

Services Provided:
• Demand assessment and case study analysis of end-users
• Development of an automated Solar Loan Appraisal Software and technical support for usage
• Setting up business and operational model for the solar loan
• Assessment of solar suppliers
• Impact evaluation of pilot and development of a long-term solar lending strategy
• Capacity building and staff training in software use and disbursement of solar loans
• Evaluation and recommendations for project scale-up
