Regional Rusumo Falls Hydropower and Multipurpose Project-2nd Extension

Client: Nile Basin Initiative.

The planned, Regional Rusumo Falls Hydropower and Multipurpose Project (RRFP) is a 60MW hydro scheme, with other multipurpose benefits, involving three riparian countries: Rwanda, Tanzania and Burundi.  The role of the Transaction Advisor is to support the Nile Basin Initiative – NELSAP Coordination Unit’s Project Manager, and the Council of Minister’s Project Implementation Committee, with advice on issues relating to institutional frameworks, required legal arrangements, financial structures and implementation arrangements.  The objective of the assignment is to support the clients’ desire to assess options for institutional frameworks, financing structures, and implementation arrangements to ensure that such matters are given due consideration and informs the decision process as countries proceed towards a decision to jointly undertake the RRFP.

Description of Services Provided:

Provision of assistance and support to the Nile Basin Initiative – NELSAP Coordination Unit’s Project Manager, and the Council of Minister’s Project Implementation Committee, with advice on issues relating to institutional frameworks, required legal arrangements, financial structures and implementation arrangements.
