Type of action: ISF Project Grants

Project ID: 101102625

Objective: The general objective of this network first aims to enhance and augment the operational capabilities of the eight active European In-Flight Security Officer (IFSO) units, plus their affiliated four non-EU partner units and their operators. EIFS partner have managed to standardize, adapt and in some cases newly create strategic and operational concepts, training curricula and equipment recommendations. With these results, member units have significantly increased their own operational capabilities and contributed to an increasingly robust aviation security network throughout the European Union and beyond. By harmonizing the work methods and tools available for IFSO it also develops the operational cooperation and makes the cross-border law enforcement cooperation more efficient. Reaching out to IFSO units outside of the EU will further enhance cooperation and contribute to a safer EU as the security issues today are a global interest, especially when it comes to aviation security. Next to the development and enhancement of their own capabilities and operational readiness, EIFS is determined to intensify cooperation with other specialized law enforcement EU entities closely affiliated with the EU Counter Terrorism Agenda and aviation security, particularly ATLAS and AIRPOL. EIFS, proposes a newly formation within its partnership of four subject matter working groups, each to focus on a pillar of EIFS operational readiness and tasked with one of the specific objectives. This new structure will lead to a more efficient and institutionalized way to help reaching our specific goals, hence strengthen the European cooperation among its partners. This structure consists of four Working Groups (WG): 1. WG Equipment (WGE) 2. WG Instructors (WGI) 3. WG Tactics (WGT) 4. WG Strategy (WGS) In twelve activities, 204 participants will benefit from the initiative. The results of this Network will be made available for the law enforcement sector in collaboration with DG Home.
