Description

CLIENT: Bad Kreuznach development corporation.
OBJECT: US Rose Barracks, US Hospital and US Housing.
THE SERVICES: Testing and remediation of contaminated soil.

Former US Rose Barracks, Housing and Hospital in the city of Bad Kreuznach have been left by the American Forces in the year 2001. The abandoned casernes are designed to demolition.
In connection with breakdown of the buildings contaminated soil should be remediated. KOCKS Consult was appointed to carry out soil testing and to coordinate and survey soil rehabilitation.

The services:
The first step included the methodic planning of soil testing and remedial action in coordination with the client, state administration and several other participants.
The technical specifications were described as part of the tender documents for the demolition of buildings.
After demolition of buildings, dismantling of storage tanks etc. soil was tested to determine the amount of pollutants such as hydrocarbons, heavy metals etc.
Remediation was accompanied by surveyor on site. Soil samples were taken from excavation pits to test them by means of chemical analysis in order to confirm the success of rehabilitation.
The results of soil testing and the course of soil remediation were described in reports for each partial area and in a final report.
As result of the rehabilitation the state authorities granted the permit to build new residential houses at the former military areas.
