Objective:

The focus of the project is to integrate large-scale Earth Observation (EO) data from the Copernicus Programme into the statistical production process. This should enable new analysis possibilities in the field of forestry and environment. The main emphasis is on: • the acquisition and preparation of required large-scale EO data • the large-scale land cover classification with the focus on woodland • the monitoring and evaluation of the national Sustainable Development Goals indicators • the integration of these results and data into statistical products and applications The EO data will be acquired via a cloud environment and made available for analyses in our own infrastructure, as confidential data are used and as this will allow the use of software products that are not available in the cloud environment. For the methodological development, a workflow for largescale EO data processing and data analysis will be established, combining domain expertise and machine learning models.
