Purpose: Considering the changes in the situation regarding urban transportation in the Greater Cairo metropolitan area and surrounding areas since the time when we supported the formulation of CREATS and MiNTS, we are developing comprehensive urban transportation measures that take into account the future vision of the metropolitan area. The “Project for Formulation of Transportation Infrastructure Development Strategy in the National Land Development Plan for the Greater Cairo Metropolitan Area and Surrounding Areas of Egypt” (hereinafter referred to as “the Project”) aims to study and formulate/revise an urban transportation master plan. The Egyptian government made a request to the Japanese government in 2021 for support related to this (the outline of the request is as follows). In response to this request, JICA conducted the “Information Collection and Confirmation Survey on the Transportation Development Plan of the Arab Republic of Egypt” in 2021, and as a result, this project was implemented to formulate an urban transportation infrastructure development strategy in the Greater Cairo metropolitan area and the new capital. We will provide support related to this.
