Description

Programme(s): Single Market Programme (SMP)

Topic(s): SMP-ESS-2023-PRS-IBA-H1-6416

Type of action: SMP European Statistics

Project ID: 101146174

Objective: This project focuses on two important topics for the HICP in the coming years: impact of shrinkflation and games of chance. The development of index compilation methods for the HICP requires choices on a broad range of topics. How to define products is one of these topics, which is also known as “stratification”. An aspect that has received little attention so far at Statistics Netherlands is the occurrence of changes in size or quantity of products over time in transaction data. The project aims to address to what extent changes in package sizes occur and how the associated price changes affect an index. Also, given the current interest in a consumer price index for Games of Chance, as expressed for example in the Task Force HICP Quality Improvement, the research into games of chance (GoC) aims to study the feasibility of a Dutch GoC price index, i.e using appropriate sources and methods to compile a monthly GoC price index. This research is necessary to include GoC in the HICP in the future.
