Description
Description:
Across the Latin American and Caribbean region (LAC), progress for children's immunization varies widely. Typically, trainings to create demand for immunization and conduct field research relies on global north frameworks and methodologies. Existing partnerships with local think tanks and academic institutions stressed the importance of revisiting and honoring LAC theories and methodologies that center on community empowerment and capacity. Firsthand was contracted for curriculum development to combine a number of methodologies—human-centered design, behavorial science, gender transformative thinking, participatory research, and LAC theories—into a streamlined set of 5 sessions with 7+ countries. The fully remote training is currently underway and is likely to conclude in the summer of 2024. In sessions, participants learn and then practice with a set of tools that takes them from community understanding, to research to solution design, concluding with lessons to develop a theory of change, and monitor and evaluate programming. During these activities, participants learn that their role is as catalysts when they test the tools, enhancing their ability to influence and drive change effectively. Mentorship is provided to involved countries as needed, with a strong focus on helping practitioners meet communities where they're at and tailor interventions to their unique needs.
