Description

Feasibility study and detailed engineering design for the rehabilitation of Goma urban roads and the section of the National road 2 (RN2) between Goma and Saké, in the Kivu north province of the Democratic Republic of Congo (approximately 61,9 km).

The project concerns the rehabilitation of the Goma urban roads and the National road 42 between Goma and Sakè for a total of 61.9 km. Of these 61.9 km, 45.4 are urban and specifically 4.6 km is double carriageway road. The remaining 14.8 km is a national roads linking Goma to Sakè. Within the design a total of 14 round about, n°6 parking area for a total of 15.000 sq.m are also considered and 5.1 km of side drains toward the Kivu lake.

The project concerns the asphalting of  Goma’s urban roads with asphalt concrete wearing course as well as the reconstruction of the drainage system.

Services description:

The project envisaged cross sections of sufficient width to guarantee free flowing traffic in each single section. For what concerns the main section, crossing the town for a length of 9 km, a section width of 12m has been envisaged (7.00 + 2 cycle paths of 2.50m), besides footways. The existing and in project main roundabouts (4) have been design according to traffic.

The contract includes three phases, as follows:

Phase 1 – Feasibility Study

  1. Feasibility study, including consideration of alternative routes and pavement options, road safety, land acquisition;
  2. Environmental and Social Impact Assessment including mitigation measures;
  3. Preliminary Engineering Designs.
  4. Economic and financial analysis.

Phase 2 -  Detailed Engineering Design

  1. Detailed Engineering Design for the approved road option including all necessary data collection, field surveys and analysis to cover all aspects of detailed design;
  2. Environmental and Social Impact Assessment ;
  3. Preparation of a full Resettlement Action Plan (RAP);
  4. Preparation of Tender documents for international competitive bidding;
  5. Preparation of Tender documents for international competitive bidding for work supervision and control;
  6. Project Management services during project implementation.
