Its investigative reporting uncovered a misuse of public funds that garnered the Pulitzer Prize for Local Reporting in 2023. Verite News launched in 2022 in New Orleans, where it covers inequities facing historically underserved communities. With its regional scale and scope, the grantee is strengthening local journalism in communities with lower access to reliable news and information, with the goal of ensuring its long-term growth and sustainability.
