Description

Title: Responding to high food insecurity in Umerkot

Project description: 

The awardee is supporting its partner with a seven-month food assistance project in Umerkot, Pakistan.

This project is responding to ongoing high levels of food insecurity in Umerkot, particularly due to failed crops and damage due to heavy rains and flooding that occurred in 2022. This area is designated as IPC 4. This project builds on the existing HERD-funded project and will provide an additional six months of in-kind food assistance to 760 of the households (23,319 individuals) supported through the HERD program.

Targeted vulnerable households will receive six monthly transfers of 60 kg of fortified wheat flour, 15 kg of rice, 7 kg of pulses, 6 litres of cooking oil, 4 kgs of sugar, 500 grams of tea leaves, and 800 grams of salt. A total of 273.6 mt of fortified wheat flour, 68.4 mt of rice, 31.9 mt of pulses, 27,400 litres of cooking oil, 18.2 mt of sugar, 1.8 mt of tea leaves, and 3.6 mt of salt will provided over the entire project.
