Description

The USAID-funded Support to the HIV/AIDS Response (SHARe) project applied a multi-sectoral approach to building long-lasting HIV/AIDS policy and coordination among a wide variety of Zambian entities.

The Support to the HIV/AIDS Response in Zambia (SHARe) Project served as a catalyst to reduce the impact of HIV and AIDS and improve the quality of life for persons affected by HIV and AIDS in Zambia. By strengthening leadership, building local capacity, and improving the policy environment, the Project supported the institutional response to HIV and AIDS. SHARe worked with the public and private sectors to establish workplace programs that strengthened HIV prevention, treatment, care and support services for employees, families, and the community at large.

In addition to supporting workplace initiatives, SHARe supported the Zambia government and nongovernmental organizations to improve the management and coordination of HIV activities, including improved data collection and decision making. The program also worked closely with policymakers to strengthen the legal and regulatory environment as it related to HIV and the national HIV/AIDS performance monitoring and evaluation system.

The project’s work to reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS and improve the quality of life for those affected by HIV/AIDS now continues under SHARe II, through which Initiatives will continue its organizational capacity building work.
