Project title: Capacity building of Biomedical Engineering training & research (JU-BME-BMETR)

Project number: NICHE-ETH-247

Requesting Organisation: Jimma University

Project description: This project will contribute to better health-related services to Ethiopian women and men by strengthening the training and applied research capacity of the Biomedical Engineering Department of Jimma University.

At the end of the project, the department will have the necessary organisational and academic capacity to develop, implement and maintain an educational programme in BioMedical Engineering (BME) delivering MSc graduates with competencies and skills which respond to labour market and gender needs. The project will assist the BME department to govern the core processes in a coherent way and to improve leadership competencies, shared vision and practice among staff in such a way that the newly developed curricula are sustained. Capable academic and support staff ) implement and maintain a good quality, relevant and gender-sensitive MSc biomedical engineering programme, incorporating applied research. Achieving gender equity in staff and students and improving the PhD/MSc ration are other areas for which the university seeks assistance.
