Name of client: Tanween

Detailed description of project:

The design was the winner of the first prize competition that was held during December 2010. Further concept design development was performed with more details and modifications to the preliminary submitted design to comply with all the client needs.

The project is a palace for a high royal family that includes all their basic needs along with their luxuries requirements that suite such a royalty family. The HNW Palace divides into three major uses; which are the grand residence, the main majlis and a club house. All of these uses were functionally separated as massing yet joined by the unity of site to compose a uniform theme that reflects the concept.

The concept itself was “Rising to Heavens”; as described in Quran and Islamic perspective; with the rivers flow and water cascading along with water ponds and heavenly gardens; generating soothing sensational interactions. The massing and elevations of the palace buildings are of post modern touch reflecting the Qatari traditional architecture to fit into its contexts with an overall modern approach. The Landscape and site treatments were major elements in the concept design; formal gardens were introduced at the main entries were organic forms were carefully scattered and designed all around the privet uses and zones. Artificial hills and berms were formed to reach a charming solution for blocking views, separating functions and providing natural endings to the site boundaries.

The Residence building includes a large Majlis with a large dining hall, family areas and recreational rooms, family suites and guest bedrooms. The Majlis Building includes several majlis halls with different sizes along with several dining halls, offices and facilities. The club House is dedicated for sports and recreational activities with indoor and outdoor swimming pools. All back of the house services were located in the basement.
