Description
From Policy to Action: Providing Safe Motherhood and Reproductive Health Services to Young People.
The overarching objective of this programme is poverty reduction in the context of sustainable development, including the pursuit of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) and other internationally agreed targets.
It is an “actor-oriented” programme aimed at strengthening the capacity of civil society organisations and local authorities as a pre-condition for a more equitable, open and democratic society through support to their “own initiatives”.
The programme therefore supports actions aimed at promoting an inclusive and empowered society in partner countries.
Under this call for proposals priority will be given to two lots in Kenya: Social Sector (Lot 1), and Governance (Lot 2). The two lots, though in a single call for proposals, are independent of one another and are to be treated separately. Strictly, this call for proposals is targeting non-state actors and excludes local authorities.
a). Lot 1 - Social Sector:
Overall Objective: To support the creation of appropriate space and opportunity for non-state actors to participate effectively in poverty reduction programmes and sustainable development in Kenya by putting disadvantaged people at the centre of development while paying special attention towards reducing regional and economic disparities.
The specific objective is to empower non-state actors to address regional and social disparities through poverty reduction initiatives targeting populations and geographic areas that are out of reach of development mainstream and excluded from policy-making processes.
b) Lot 2 - Governance:
Overall Objective: To support the creation of appropriate space and opportunity for non-state actors to engage and participate effectively in institutional governance reforms as well as addressing key governance challenges in Kenya.
The specific objective is to improve democratic and economic governance through reinforcing the demand side of government accountability.
