Client: Zesco

Detailed description of project:

CPCS was engaged by ZESCO as the Lead Advisor to provide all transaction advisory services for the 750MW Kafue Gorge hydroelectric dam. ZESCO is interested in developing a power station eight kilometers downstream from the existing Kafue Gorge Power Station. The Transaction Advisory mandate follows feasibility studies completed by previous consultants. The final recommendations included:

  • A surface powerhouse with five generating units rated at 150MW each
  • 1 140m high concrete faced rock-fill dam (CFRD)
  • A 330V switchyard with provision for:

          - Two outgoing transmission lines connecting to a new 330/132kV substation as well as the existing 330/132kV substation
          - One short interconnector to the existing Kafue Gorge Power Station and five incoming feeder bays

Type of services provided:

CPCS will provide services in Financial Analysis and Modelling, Investment Merchant Banking, Technical & Environmental Feasibility Review, Legal and Contracting Market Analysis, Tariff Analysis & Modeling, Capacity Building and Training, and Transaction Management.
