Detailed description of project:
The general objective of the project is to contribute to the efforts of the Union of the Comoros in the field of development and the fight against poverty by strengthening the resilience of the country to climate change.
Its purpose is to improve the integration of climate change by the national and local actors in their strategies, plans and projects in all sectors, but in particular related to coastal zone management, water and agriculture.
Expected results of the project are:
Result 1 : the mechanisms and tools for the management and assessment of data, the production and dissemination of information related to climate change are operational and shared with the main stakeholders
Result 2 : the capacities of key stakeholders in the field of climate change are strengthened and the mainstreaming of climate change in government strategies and national planning processes is enhanced.
Result 3 : the resilience to climate change and the living conditions of the vulnerable populations are improved by the implementation of local pilot adaptation actions.
Type of services provided:
Support the updating of cartographic data regarding the islands of the Comoros
Support the collection of data and the production and sharing of geographic information related to climate change
Support the stocktaking and sharing of experiences related to climate resilience
Support the development of a communication and awareness building plan concerning the impact of climate change, in particular related to coastal zone management, water and agriculture.
Support capacity building of all key stakeholders in terms of their knowledge and understanding of the impact of climate change
Build awareness and support the mainstreaming of climate change into various sectors, and most notably coastal zone management, water, agriculture and transport.
Support the formulation and implementation of local pilot projects intended to increase the resilience and livelihood of vulnerable populations.
