About

The Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie (BDI), Federation of German Industries e. V. (BDI) is the umbrella organisation of German industry and industry-related service providers. It represents 38 industrial sector federations and has 15 regional offices in the German federal states. BDI speaks for more than 100,000 private enterprises employing around 8 million people. Membership is voluntary.

Our pluralistic democracy can only function if a multiplicity of opinions from civil society is articulated in the political opinion-forming and decision-making process. The open competition of ideas is the healthiest approach to finding the best solutions for our society. The BDI is therefore a vital civic actor and an important force of political reform.

Industry is the basis of the German economy and plays a decisive role in determining the future competitiveness of our country. The BDI relays the interests of German industry to political representatives in Germany, Europe and worldwide. And vice versa, BDI makes current political decisions transparent to its member associations.
