About
Established in 2001, Manobi SA is located in Dakar, Senegal, with branches in West Africa: Mali, Cote d'Ivoire, Benin, Niger, Burkina Faso. Based on innovation and development, Manobi succeeded in both directions (pioneer of web-mobile convergence), and projects a strong presence in the reality on the ground.
MANOBI AFRICA orchestrates inclusive value creation inside agricultural chains and drinkable water systems. Combining recognized sector expertise with digital solutions and proximal presence, MANOBI AFRICA transforms agriculture and drinkable water service creating economic and social value.
Headquarters in Mauritius, MANOBI AFRICA has subsidiary or project presence in 14 African countries and early portfolios in Europe.
Manobi Africa delivers digital solutions and services for businesses, development projects and service providers in Africa’s water and agricultural sectors. The company profiles, maps and monitors the activities of value chain actors, in real-time, across 14 African countries by combining geospatial mapping and remote-sensing technologies at scale. Using data intelligence to compile and analyse this information, Manobi Africa provides robust monitoring and evaluation reports, and sustainable management solutions.
The ‘mAgri 2.0’ platform, developed by Manobi Africa in 2002, was the world’s first mobile-based agricultural market information system to be used by Africa’s smallholder farmers. Initially a platform to access commodity price updates and connect agricultural stakeholders, the application has evolved to deliver a range of integrated services. These include crop traceability, farm georeferencing and weather forecasts to benefit actors across the value chain.
Other technologies developed by the company are applied in the water and sanitation sectors to enhance water resilience and security. The applications create digital roadmaps of water pipes, reservoirs and distribution networks; for example, to track water flow volumes, identify problem areas, and reduce utility water losses.
Today, Manobi Africa is working in partnership with a network of development organisations, including Africa Rice, the Islamic Development Bank, the United Nations Development Programme and the World Bank. Through these collaborations, the company is increasing safe water access, youth employment, digital agriculture – and much more – for emerging economies.
