About

Seriti Institute strengthens the capacity of impoverished communities to create work opportunities and organise on their own behalf for personal and community development. Seriti Institute’s mission is to “foster socially healthy, resilient and economically vibrant communities, and thereby promote sustainable livelihoods, dignity and prosperity”. Seriti’s purpose is to foster socially healthy and economically vibrant communities, through the following means:

  • Work:   Stimulating work opportunities that contribute to vibrant communities
  • Learn:   Supporting and inspiring community-level capacitation and innovation
  • Grow:   Strengthening communities by nurturing human and economic potential

Seriti is a social enterprise formed in 2009 and registered as a non-profit company (NPC) and public benefit organisation. As a social enterprise Seriti Institute’s revenue comprises of fees-for-service from its major programmes, as well as consulting assignments. There are no profits or dividends accruing; surplus funds are ‘ploughed back’ into community initiatives and educational activities.

Seriti uses a results-based approach to design, implement and manage its work and has a strong focus on Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning. The key impact in Seriti’s Theory of Change is to transform and organise communities. Seriti seeks to achieve these through its interventions and the design of its programme activities which is a transformational approach that takes communities
on a developmental learning journey that assists communities to generate sustainable livelihoods while strengthening their capacity to organise on their own behalf.
