Altai Consulting started its operations in 2003. The company has since then expanded its activities in Africa, the Middle East and South Asia. Our teams have successfully completed more than 250 research and consulting assignments so far in more than 50 emerging countries. Altai Consulting builds its expertise on a network of 50+ international consultants and more than 100 national consultants, field researchers and support teams in the different countries of operation. Our teams have complementary skills ranging from strategy consulting to social research, monitoring & evaluation, market analysis and capacity building. Our approach is based on systematic field assessment and reality checks, feeding into robust technical analysis. Our studies support large development programs and aim at improving the effectiveness of aid delivery and the sustainability of aid interventions in complex environments. Development Strategies

Approach: Altai Consulting has taken part in numerous macro-projects involving the design or review of sector strategies with ministries, donors and other stakeholders. It has included producing reports in preparation of large international conferences.

Social Research

Approach: Altai Consulting has developed a broad range of methodologies to ensure that social research directly supports aid & development programs in their design & implementation phases. Based on quantitative & qualitative research tools (surveys, key informant interviews, focus group discussions, cases studies & observations, etc.) our studies are designed to lead to practical recommendations.

Monitoring & Evaluation

Approach: Altai Consulting has conducted a number of program evaluations in a variety of contexts. For each mission, a specific methodology is designed, taking into account the program dynamics, partners involved and areas of implementation. With customized tools and mixed teams of national and international consultants, Altai Consulting is reviewing all levels of the implementation chain, from contractual obligations to end-beneficiaries. Best practices and lessons learned are extracted and shared. Recommendations are formulated for future program developments, hand-over or corrective actions.

Capacity Building

Approach: Altai Consulting has been mandated by several organizations to develop locally sensitive curriculums and conduct training sessions as well as on-the-job training for local teams, partners & beneficiaries. Most curriculums are designed based on practical experience and local knowledge.

Database Design, Knowledge Management

Approach: One of the major gaps identified by our teams in assessing aid & development programs is the lack of information sharing tools among stakeholders involved in the same sector or range of activities. Over the past six years, Altai Consulting has been mandated by several international organizations to collect information across donors and implementers and design program information databases, that can be accessed online, through search engine or wiki-like tools.
