About

IES Son Ferrer belongs to the municipality of Calvià, located in the southwest of the island of Mallorca and bordering the municipalities of Palma de Mallorca to the east, Andratx to the west and Puigpunyent and Estellencs to the north. It has an area of 145 square kilometers and because of its geographical configuration, it enjoys some of the best landscapes on the Mallorcan coast, with the Na Burguesa mountain range, ample pine trees and almond trees, and a varied native vegetation, as well as a coastline with Interesting places (Cap de Cala Figuera, Malgrats ...) and 26 beaches, each with its own characteristics. The waters run on the slopes of Palma and Andratx. The climate is Mediterranean with an average of 27ºC / 78.6 F in summer and 14ºC / 52.7F in winter, with more than 300 days of sun, and a few precipitation, less than 400 mm / year to the coast, which are progressively increased in the mountainous area up to 600 from Calvià Vila.La population of Calvià has grown from 2,690 inhabitants in 1960 to 47,707 in 2005, an explosive growth that continues today. It is characterized mainly by being young and urban, with a predominantly peninsular, especially Andalusian and, in particular, Granada for many years, and European - English and German in a large majority - which largely explains the problems of the " linguistic integration with respect to Catalan.
