About

Wide range of experts of ESS from architectural planning to structural design and implementation made possible to import and practice the proven technologies and concepts in planning and design from worldwide.Post-earthquake damage assessment is done to identify the level of damage in the building after any earthquake and to determine the level of intervention required or need of demolition of the structure. Quality construction to ensure the good performance during the earthquake is essential. Hence, ESS executes the retrofit construction works as well as provides the solutions for the problem. It has capacity for liquefaction potential analysis and site response analysis.Apart from seismic hazard assessment, ESS has the experts for multi- hazard assessment such as landslide, flood, fire, lightening, etc. ESS has its own laboratory which identifies geotechnical problems and provides the solutions for the problem. It has capacity for liquefaction potential analysis and site response analysis.In order to respond effectively during the emergency of earthquake, any institution shall have response plan prepared. Nonstructural elements (Cup board, TV, refrigerator, false ceiling etc.) inside the building poses threat to life even in the medium earthquake. To identify the level of risk, nonstructural vulnerability assessment is conducted and necessary mitigation measures are recommended. The other major service provided by the ESS are training activities for enhancement of the capacity. It conducts training on ‘earthquake risk reduction and preparedness as well as training on earthquake resistant design and construction.

ESS’s urban planning services mainly fall into four basic categories;

• Building bylaws

• Urban Regeneration

• Local disaster risk management program (LDRMP)/ Community based disaster risk management program (CBDRMP)

• Risk sensitive land use planning (RSLUP) In addition to above, the future goal of ESS is to cover all areas of urban planning system including preparation of action plan, periodic plans, integrated urban development municipal plans, land use/zoning plans and Disaster risk resilient community plans.
